The Labour Government and security cooperation with the EU
An agreement between the UK and EU on defence and security should not be at the expense of existing bilateral ties but could help to structure and reinforce them, writes Commission member and lecturer Ben Martill.
The regularisation of political contacts would further enable the kind of informal contacts that have proven fruitful in recent months.
Coordination would do much to enable EU-NATO coordination whilst contributing to EU initiatives which are welcomed as means of improving the overall European contribution to NATO.
